Speech by the Chairperson
Welcome to the Press Conference of the Australian Chinese Charity Foundation.
I am Eugenia Lieu, the Chairperson of Fund & Grant Committee of the Foundation.
The Foundation was established in 1991, with the purposes of promoting multiculturalism, supporting the efforts of the voluntary organizations in NSW, promoting of charitable works in Australia.
The Australian Chinese Charity Foundation has funded many agencies and organizations that are dealing with a broad range of social problems and issues.
The Categories under which the grants are offered:
- Youth Needs
- The Aged
- Mainstream Charities
- Special Needs
- Accident and Illness
The Foundation is also involved with charitable works among the Chinese Community and the ethnic communities in NSW
During 2003 the subcommittee approved emergency assistance to the total amount of $2,000.00 through the following organizations:
- Australian Chinese Community Association (ACCA)
- Chinese Migrant Welfare Association
Grant distribution by application process is held once a year. The successful grants receipients received in total amount of $22,600.00 last year. It was distributed to the recipients during the ACCF Annual Dinner, Friday 7 November 2003 at Marigold Restaurant, George Street, Sydney. The seven (7) receipient organizations are:
- Continence Foundation of Australia in NSW Inc
- Chinese Catholic Community Homes Ltd
- CanRevive Inc
- 1st Marrickville Scout Group
- Chinese Migrant Welfare Asssociation
- Chinese Parents Association - Children with Disabilities Inc
- Technical Aid to the Disabled
Today, I wish to announce that the Foundation will be accepting application for grants from Community organizations for 2004. We are aimimg to distribute around $60,000.00 of funding this year. NO grant will be above a maximum of $5,000.00. The closing date of the Application is 31/08/04.
The Foundation acknowledges that it is not a lot of money. This is an initiative of the Foundation and hopefully, with these grants, the recipient communities will be able to complete their projects for the benefit of their members and the public.
My sincere thanks to the Committee Members Eve Chen, Hudson Chen, Maude Chin, Benjamin Chow, King Fong, Cherie Kam & Pinkie Leung for their hard work and consistent dedication throughout the year 2003 in accessing support to the individual and fanilies in emergency circumstance, and welcome to the new Committee Members for this year Eve Chen, Maude Chin, Benjamin Chow, King Fong, Cherie Kam, Pinkie Leung and Wendy Chan.
